The value of travel in our lives

I enjoy reading and remembering favorite quotes, especially those that relate to travel—and by extension to our views of life in general. The following quote is a reminder that travel adds lasting value to our outlook on life beyond the sights we see and the photos we take.
Certainly travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.  Mary Ritter Beard

The experience of traveling casts a long shadow over our thoughts and colors our understanding of what is important to each of us personally and as citizens of the world.

Travel introduces us to interesting people and a means for understanding cultures that differ from our own. Talking one-on-one with citizens of other countries is the best way to appreciate another point of view and way of life.

Our world is full of amazingly beautiful landscapes and scenery that pictures just can't reproduce. Every time I see mountains, rivers, canyons, beaches, and other glories of nature, I marvel at what I would miss if I didn't travel. Focusing on the moment fills all my senses and leave me with a sense of awe about this planet on which we live.

No matter where I travel, there is something interesting to see and do. And--with eyes and ears open--I always learn new ideas to apply to my own life.

What does travel mean to you?
